Don’t Hurry, Don’t Worry, 2010, 4-Channel HD Video Installation with Sound
Gautam Kansara mines his own biography to explore notions of intimacy, loss, and the passage of time in his videos, photographs, and mixed media installations. Don’t Hurry, Don’t Worry is a compilation of moments that take place within the London home of his maternal grandparents and addresses shared histories, familial hierarchies, cultural displacement, and interfamilial, inter-generational dynamics. The video footage was taken over a period of six years and captures the subtle complexities of a diasporic existence. His documentary style exposes the disjunction among experience, memory, and archival documentation.
